Sabah

Luxury holidays and honeymoons in Sabah, Borneo – in the lap of luxury yet still close to nature.

Sabah, which covers northern Borneo, is mountainous, with marshy coastal areas. The area is known as The land below the wind, due to it’s location south of the typhoon belt. The area is still largely covered with rainforest. The main export products are crude oil, obtained off the west coast, timber and wood and palm oil and other tropical agricultural products. The capital is Kota Kinabalu and another major town is Sandakan. On the East coast there is good diving, while another tourist draw in the Sabah region is the orang-utan release centre near Sandakan.

The area came under British rule in 1878 and was then known as British North Borneo. Since 1963 it’s been part of Malaysia.
